Point Spread Betting Line

Point Spread betting line is a bet which combines betting on the winner and the score of the match. The line is the game and the point spread betting is actually the score of the game.

We can examine the following example in order to better understand the meaning of point spread betting line:

In an NBA game of the Bulls and the Nicks, the bet terms state that the Bulls will win + 10. The explanation is that the bulls will win the Nicks by 10 points. For the gambler to win, the bulls have to win for more than 10 points for example 100 – 111. If this is the case, the gambler won, if it’s a tie – the bet is canceled and the bet amount is returned to the gambler. If it’s less – the gambler lost in this bet.

We can look at the same in financial spread betting where the bet says that the oil will finish + $1 at the end of the bet compared to the market value. If the gambler place a bet that the oil will go short (go short is going down in value unlike going long which is going up in value – increase value), if that happens the gambler wins, if the oil price goes up, the gambler lost his bet times the value units of the oil price rise.

A point spread betting line is mostly common in sports betting and especially in Basketball (NBA games). The point spread bet is great if you have a complete match history in which you can determine the score of the game by the previous match history of the 2 teams.

A point spread betting line is a more difficult bet since it requires more accuracy than a regular bet which is more and less than the spread. This is why it’s better to get started with spread betting with the over under bets rather than the point spread betting line bets.

NBA basketball matches often end with a large point spread betting which makes them attractive for these type of bets.
